about

“David is a highly talented composer with a deep knowledge of many forms, and a passion for collaboration and exploration.”
-Rebecca Novick, Former Artistic Director of Crowded Fire Theater Company

David holds performer-composer MFA and BFA degrees from the California institute of the Arts where he studied composition with Michael Jon Fink, Wolfgang von Schweinitz, and Ulrich Krieger and piano with Vicki Ray. He previously studied composition at the University of Oregon with with Rob Kyr and David Crumb. His enthusiasm for experimentation and his broad musical background lead him to compose “mesmerizing” and “ethereal” scores that “are accessible without bending to pop conventions”. As an accomplished pianist and improviser, David is able to quickly compose, record, and produce music for orchestra, electronics, small ensembles, and solo instruments. In 2012, David opened Rhodes School of Music in Larchmont village which offers lessons to children and adults of all levels on most instruments.

“David’s work is both gorgeous and rigorous, challenging and pleasure-giving. And he is the most natural collaborator—the most respectful, inspirational, creative and endlessly resourceful—that I’ve ever worked with.”
